I feel that in my trailer i will be able to make sure that I exemplify all of the characteristics needed to distinguish that there are for a horror film.
Characteristics of the Horror Genre
Antagonist: The antagonist in a film is the bad guy or the villain who often scares many people or is set out to cause dangerous and evil things. In a film, the antagonist may either be of a supernatural entity or a psychopathic character.
Protagonist: The protagonist in the film is also known as the victim or the good character. They are often a hero and also very often a female. The protagonist may sometimes be known as the final girl, as she is in the film from beginning to end and survives through all incidents.
Helper: In a horror film there is very often a helper who tries to help the protagonist by giving them advice, they may either be a friend, or a police officer for example. It varies throughout the different horror films whether or not the helper is still alive by the end of the film.
Monster Fodder: The monster fodder is one of the first characters introduced in a horror film and are usually killed by the antagonist. This is so that the audience are aware of who the antagonist and what they are capable of. It builds up a sense of terror and fright. The monster fodder is a stock character who does not have much character development.
Themes: The themes that are used in a horror film can be very important as they may portray different relationships between the characters. The themes are usually shown through a series of binary oppositions such as; Good vs Evil, Normal vs Abnormal, Male vs Female, Dark vs Light and Love vs Hate.
Narrative: In horror films there is often a three-act structure used. This means that the film will have three parts to it, the set up, the confrontation and the resolution. The three act structure was used in the 1980 horror film, The Shining.
Set Up, Image One: In the set up, the main focus will be establishing the antagonist and the protagonist and also setting the story.
Confrontation, Image Two: The confrontation then follows the set up, this is where the antagonist will attack and some sort of conflict will take place, leading to the resolution.
Resolution, Image Three: After the confrontation, there is then a resolution. This could mean the death of the antagonist and solving the problem.
Horror films start in a state of equilibrium which means that everything is balanced out and normal, however during the event sof the film, the equilibrium will be disrupted and the focus of the film will be to restore the equilibirum on the part of the protagonist.
Iconography:
In the horror genre there are many different things such as props and costumes that the audience recognise to fully understand what genre the film is.
Weaponry: Different types of props are used by the antagonist to create an atmosphere and show the different ways of attacking the victim. Gory films use more extreme weapons such as chainsaws.
Costume/Make Up: The antagonist in many horror films, maybe wearing a mask to hide their identity to allow the audience to have a suprise and to guess who it is under the mask. Costumes are also important as they reflect alot about the characters.

Content Analysis:Jennifer's Bodys trailer is made non-chronologically, this is an effective way of doing it as it doesn't reveal too much of the film and therefore the audience will still be suprised with what may happen. In the trailer the film makes introduce the main plot and the sub plots that flow around it, they also introduce the main characters and relationships between the characters. The trailer includes clips from the film with supporting credits, however edited inbetween the clips from the film are narrative titles.
Camera:
The first shot after the distribution companies logo has appeared is an establishing shot of a large open lake, in the middle of the lake we are able to see movement from a person swimming. The fact that the person appears very small in the opening shot exemplifies that there is going to be a lot of isolatoin in the film and also that she is going to one of the main characters in the film. Following this shot is then a close up of an attractive female character, staring directly at the camera, in many horror films, effects and shots on eyes are often used to portray possession and the antagonist. 
Following the shots from the sea, the clip immediately changes to a narrative title quoting 'in every school' there is then a variety of long shots, medium shots and close-ups of the same female, these shots introduce the character properly, allowing the audience to view every aspect of her. Between these shots there are also other narrative titles added in to continue adding ephasis on what the character is like. The close up shots are essential in this trailer as they are all of a unique selling point of the film, a popular american actress Megan Fox. The actress will not only attract the female gender as young girls may look up to her as a role model, but also the male gender as she is also seen as beingvery attractive to many boys.
In the trailer, an over the shoulder shot is used capturing Megan Fox's reflection in a mirror, not only does this represent vanity in the character of which is a stereotypical view of popular girls, but also may foreshadow that there are two sides to this character and that there is going to be a change in this characters appearance.
Handheld cameras are used in the trailer to represent unsteadiness, action and to allow the audience to see what it is like from the characters perspectives.
There are also other estbalishing shots used to introduce settings.
In the trailer, other then when there are establishing shots, no other high or low angle shots are used, I think that this is because as it is only a trailer, the director wouldnt want to give to much away about who is going to be the more dominant character in the film, as it would ruin the suprise for the audience.

In many of the clips, only half of the main characters face seems to have light on it, this may be done to show that there is a hidden side to this character. The shots that are being took at indoor locations such as the school are very well lit, however all of the outdoor ones have limited light, this may have been done to represent limited hope for the characters.
Mise-en-Scene
Costume: Throughout most of the trailer, all of the cast are just wearing normal tradition teener clothes, however at the end of teh trailer, we see Megan Fox wearing a white prom-style dress with dirt on it. The fact that she is wearing a qhite dress and it had got dirty, shows the contrast between the two sides of her, and also reflects how at the beginning of the trailer she was pure and innocent and how things then change.Macro Analysis:

The narrative is told in the form of narrative titles that appear between clips of the film to help support each other and show a realtionship between both.

The only noticable setting that is introduced in the trailer is a school, although this doesnt really match the horror genre, it introduces the age of the characters and therefore this can have a large impact on the target audience.
Other settings that are shown in the trailer are outside, and all very dark, this suupports the conventions of the horror genre.

One of the close-ups if of a a new character opening curtains and looking out of the window, the way that the camera pictures her opening the curtains is as if she is introducing herself to the audience as a new character. As well as this, the close up is important as it is of a attractive american actress Hayden Panettiere, because she is very well known and attractive, this may also be seen as a unique selling point of the film. There are many other close ups in the trailer, these are important in the trailer to allow the audience to see the emotions of the different characters. 
There is also another important medium shot in the trailer, of which may have a big impact on the audience of the film and also tells the audience a lot about the characters. This medium shot is important as from the trailer we are able to see that the film is taretted at an older audience and also that the female character is giong to be a very open character in the film. The image would also make you assume that there is going to be sexual scenes within the film.
In the trailer there is also an over the shoulder shot,from the female characters point of view, whilst looking at the antagonist, as this shot is from over the shoulder, it puts the audience into the characters perspective and allows them to feel as if they are looking at the person in the mask. This creats fear and fright in the audience. 
Different angles are used in the trailer to show dominance and the hierarchy between the characters. Although the angles are used in the trailer, they are not aimed at any character specifically, as well as this, you are unable to see from whos point of view the shot is coming from, this is so that the dominant characters in the film are not revealed and therefore there is still a suprise for the audience.
In the teaser trailer there is also a long shot, long shots are important in the trailer to fully introduce a character. The long show allows the audience to get a view of what the character is wearing from head to toe. This is important as the clothing represents what the character is like. This image shows a character in a full black costume, this colour represents that it is a dark and evil character. As well as this, the audience is able to see that the character is wearing a mask that has been worn in the prequels and also allows the audience to identify the antagonist before watching the film. In the trailer there are also repetitive sharp noises that sounds like somebody being stabbed, this shows that there is going to be stabbing in the film. All of the dialogue in the trailer helps to tell the narrative of the story without giving too much of the storyline away. There are also many loud screams in the trailer, however these aren't diegetic and we are unable to see who the screaming is coming from, this is so that the audience don't know too much about who the victims are going to be.

- Coverlines: The magazine cover shows many other articles that are in the magazine. One of the main articles that we see is going to be in the magazine is about the film Hostel Part II. We can see that this is going to be the main article in the magazine as it is the second biggest word on the cover and in big bold letters. It is also advertising other films such as Haloween, and 1108 and films that are going to attract the targetted audience to buy the magazine.
- Skyline: The skyline of this magazine is a question addressed to the audience of something that is going to be in the magazine. As it is a question, this makes the audience want to read the article to find out the answer.
- Central Image: The central image of the magazine cover is an image from the featured film Hostel Part II. This is used to support what is gong to be in the article, it always makes the reader more aware of the genre of the film, iconography such as blood and a cut up body will attract the targetted audience who are interested in gory horror films. The Anchorage Text to support this image is the title of the film.
- Colour and Font: The colour and font that is used on the magazine cover is essential when considering the target audience and how it will attract the audience. The title of the magazine is in red, this is because red represents danger, fear and also blood. Other coverlines are also in green, this is because it can be seen as a gory colour and is also the colour of many monsters such as the monster in Frankenstein and also the Hulk. Other titles are white however with red faded onto it, this also foreshadows that there is going to be blood in the film.

This may be because it is quite and expensive and therefore if it was easily available to see it may put the audience off buying it. On the other hand, it may also be because the magazine has always been the same price and tehrefore it does not need to be displayed fully and take up to much room on the magazine.
- Left Side Third: All of the important informatoin on the magazine has been displayed down the left side third. On this side is the title of many films and articles that are going to be featured in the magazine. This is becuase this is the side that will be easiest to see when teh magazines are being displayed in the shop.
- Language: The magazine makes very direct statements aimed at the audience, for example 'Bring Out Your Dead'. The editors have used a direct mode of address to attract the audience.
Magazine Cover Analysis 2: Total Film
- Masthead: The title of this magazine cover is Total Film, the word 'Film' on the cover is the biggest and most clearest. This is so that the audience will immediately know what the magazine is about. The colour of the word is red, this is significant as the colour red represents many things such as blood, fear, danger, love and emergency. Therefore this shows that the magazine 'Total Film' will cover articles on films of different genres, this allows the magazine to widen the targetted audience and not only aim it at specific people who are interested in a specific genre of films.
- Coverlines: The magazine cover presents many articles that are going to be featured in the magazine. The main focus on the coverlines is drew in by a big bold arrow pointing towards the rightside third of the cover, then listing a variety of films or slogans to match the film. To attract the audience the editor of the magazine has used different fonts and colours. ''The Deadly Megan Fox' has been put in a red font to make it stand out, this is the picture of Megan Fox is the main focus on the cover. As well as this, when putting a word before the film, the editors have also used a black font to grab the audiences attention to make them aware of what is going to be said about the film and to make it stand out, for example 'The Stormy Twilight'.
- Skyline: The skyline of the magazine cover is important as it is something that may be seen first if magazines are stacked in stores above and behind each other. Therefore the magazine cover has a very eye catching and persuasive skyline to make the audience want to read the magazine, this is 'Our Biggest Preview Ever'. The word biggest has also been put in a different font to make it stand out more and to exaggerate the word. In the skyline there are also images of three films. These three films may be what the editor felt were going to be popular films that would attract an audience. To make the decision of publishing these images and films as the skyline the editor may have done his/her own audience research by creating a questionnaire to see what genres/actors/actresses/directors people like.

Movie Poster Analysis 1: Jennifer's Body
- Colours: The colours that have been used in the poster are relevant to the genre of the film. The background of the posters are all dark colours which help to represent the dark side of the character. These colours are also very dull, and create a dark moody atmosphere, this shows that the the film is not going to be a very happy film. Another colour that has been used in the poster, is the colour red. The actress on the poster is the antagonist, and therefore she is wearing this colour to represent blood, fear and danger. These are all common things that are often portrayed in a horror film. Some of the font on the poster has been written in white and on a black background, this is to show the contrast between good and bad in her character and how white is a minority colour. The main star is wearing red as it is also scene as a 'sexy' colour and therefore it will help to attract the male gender. As well as this, as red is a primary colour it will help to attract the audience.

- Colours: In this poster, the only colours that have been used for the text are white, red and black. This mixture of colours together help to represent many of the themes or personalities of characters that may be in the film. The colours represent a variety of: blood, fear, anger, love and innocence. The colours black and white also help to show the colour that the antagonist wears in the prequels to the film. In addition to this, the colours black and white contrast against each other, to show the difference between the good and bad.
